Natural is Beautiful | MHP Louisville, Ky Portrait Photographer

As much as I would like to say the title means us girls don't have to put on make-up or shave our legs to be beautiful, that is not quite the status quo I am discussing today. The natural beauty I am talking about is the Smile. I had a smile sign suprise me the other day. You know the one that just says Smile! with a squigly underneath? It was writen someplace strange like the garbage can or a public restroom. Caught me completely by surprise and I actually did smile.

The most beautiful of smiles, to me, is the one right after tears. But as I hope to never make (or cause, I suppose) anyone over the age of 5 cry at any photo shoot, we will have to settle for the second best...

The belly laugh.

It is the real stuff. The one where only your family and friends can call it up in an instant. Those are what I live (and shoot) for. They make my life complete. No matter what has to be said to get the laugh that touches the eyes, I am all for it. There is a reason photos don't have sound. We can keep the slightly off-color jokes or talk about boogies out of the photo and off grandma's wall. No one has to know. It will be our little secret.

New Year, New Goals | MHP Louisville, KY Portrait Photographer

I am starting this year off with the hopes of helping you, my friends and clients. I hope to help you understand what I do, how I do it, and hopefully put you at ease about photographs. So here goes.

You are normal. You really are. Your family is normal.
Your kid who won't look at the camera or stop wiggling or fussing is normal.
Your husband who smiles too hard, or too scary is normal.
Your teenager who thinks they are way too cool for school (or photos) is normal.
Your dog (or 4 year old) who has to be bribed is normal.
You are normal.

And it is my job to capture something anyway. I can help you get those amazing photos of your normal family, because I know some tricks, I have some patience, and I have the quick trigger finger to catch something before the melt down really ensues.  I do have real like examples, but I will leave those to your imagination to protect the innocent.

Today remember you are normal. Tomorrow, a new revelation to share with you.

Xmas Time

Xmas Deadline & Goodies

As I have said before, I simply cannot contain myself about the holiday season this year. I may be dreaming about it at night, because I am like a kid with a countdown lately. But there simply are not enough hours in the day for me to get everything done that I want. So I will have to cut off scheduling sessions or else I may not have clean anything to wear straight through December. The last day to schedule sessions will be saturday Dec. 1. I only have a couple spots until then, but won't be taking any more after that until the new year. I will also have to have an ordering deadline of Dec. 1 on all photo orders (prints, gifts, cards, everything!) or seven days after I post your gallery for all those getting photos taken in the next couple weeks. My husband thanks you for clean socks.

And I thank you so very much and would give each of you a big hug, but I'm sure you would rather have a discount goodie! So this week only, I am having a friends and family appreciation week. Take 20% off everything. I repeat. EVERYTHING. Cards, calendars, digital negatives (singles and whole sessions), packages (even if it has long since expired), prints, metal prints, canvases, even gift cards...whew I must be nuts. Holiday in my head

There are lots of things swimming in my head lately, what needs to be done on the house, work needs, portrait ideas, sporting events, and Christmas. Lots of Christmas. I am thinking gifts and decorations, cards and new recipes. I mean its crazy. Is it just me or has the our world been waiting for the holidays so much this year we could just bust? Maybe its just me.

Peyton and Ella [11 days new]

I could not wait to meet these two beautiful babies.  I say babies because mommy and daddy are good friends and they decided not to find out what they were having until they made their appearance. It was so exciting and they are just the perfect angels that I knew they would be!  World, meet Peyton and Ella!
